BBVFD: Did You Know…

The members are volunteers that serve the community strictly for the love and desire to help their neighbors and receive no pay for their service.
Fundraising activities play a huge part as it provides the majority of the operating budget.
Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) used for interior firefighting and other dangerous atmospheres cost about $7,000 each. The department manages 15 SCBA in its inventory.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for one firefighter costs about $4,000 and includes coat, pants, helmet, gloves, hood, & boots. Our department manages 20+ sets of gear and tries to replace each before their 10-year expiration.
Our response area is 162 square miles or about 25% of Preston County.
There are 12 fire departments in Preston County. Each department is assigned a company number, we are Company 3.
The department covers 17 miles of Interstate 68 from the 15 mm (Coopers Rock) to the 32 mm (Maryland line).
The department responds to approximately 250 emergencies each year.
