Fire Safety For Kids

Talking about fire can be a scary subject for kids. Keeping it simple and making sure your children know and understand that getting out is the top priority. They need to understand that everything else is replaceable but they are not. Follow these easy steps when talking about fire safety with your kids.

  1. Explain to your children that fire is dangerous but having a plan and practicing it will help them be more confident in knowing what to do.
  2. Give them tips like Stop, Drop and Roll and stay low to the ground if there’s smoke.
  3. If a portable fire escape ladder is part of your plan make sure your child(ren) knows how and when to use it.
  4. If you have a meeting place in your plan in case your family gets separated make sure it’s not hard to find.
  5. A fun way to help your children engage in the plan is to draw up a map. Make sure to have 2 escape routes from each room. (This may include a window) Then have your kids trace a route on how they can escape each room.

Helping your kids be prepared and practice your plan will make them confident when a fire emergency does arise. So following these easy and simple steps will ensure their safety and help you feel at ease when having to speak on such a scary topic.
